Glock With Hammer - Home » Firearms » ISSC M 22 .22 Rifle — As Close as You Can Get to a Glock .22LR
The Austrian ISSC M22 self-loading pistol is an exciting pistol similar to the world's most popular police pistol, the Glock. The gun is affordable at just over the price of a .22 conversion unit for a Glock pistol and has great features including a Lothar Walther barrel. Although it looks like a double action only Glock, the ISSC-Austria M22 is a single action pistol.
Glock With Hammer
The M22 is a straight blowback similar to the Ruger Standard Model or Browning Buckmark. The magazine holds 10 rounds of .22 Long Rifle ammunition. The gun looks and feels like a Glock with a slightly tighter grip angle. The grips are nicely textured and provide good traction and adhesion when cooking.
What's The Difference: Hammer Vs. Striker Fired
The sights are also identical to Glock's white rear sight. The background is adjustable. The gun is equipped with an ambidextrous trigger/manual safety. When the gun is cocked, the safety is used to decorate the hammer. The hammer falls safely as the safety rotates to lock the firing pin. When the safety is rotated to fire, the hammer must be cocked to start firing.
When the gun fires, the slide retracts and loads the hammer. The safety cannot be used when the hammer is kicked; always hammering. There is also a firing pin or dump safety, and a lever mounted on the trigger will not allow the trigger to move unless the lever is pulled. The gun will not fire unless the magazine is loaded.
An additional safety feature is built into the trigger. The screw is turned to match the fire or safe mode. Safe mode locks the trigger. The gun has many safety features, and none of them interfere or prevent fire. The trigger action breaks at 5.7 pounds according to the Lyman digital trigger pull gauge.
There are five cocking grooves at the front and four at the rear. The discharge port is open. The gun contains a loaded chamber indicator that provides both visual and tactile notifications. The repaired barrel was made by Lothar Walther and appears to be well fitted and finished.

A word of caution is in order here. The recoil spring only fits one way, so be sure to keep it properly positioned or there may be a malfunction. The gun features a Weaver mount for combat lighting. This should make for good practice sessions with the light installed.
Disassembly is not much different than most small caliber guns. While the pistol uses Glock-style trigger pulls, the ISSC pistol has a fixed barrel, so unloading is different. The levers are pressed down with the safety on and the slide is pulled to the rear and out of the top of the barrel.
It's easy and doesn't require much effort. The gun needs oil to function properly, so be sure to oil the piece well before firing. A rifle, like most quality .22's, should be cleaned every 300 rounds. Honestly, I found the ISSC M22 to be similar in this respect to the SIG Mosquito.
With the loads it likes, it is very reliable, but not otherwise. ISSC recommends a breakdown of 200 cycles at specified loads. There are only two recommended loads, the CCI Blazer and the CCI Mini Mag. Both are high quality speed loads that will deliver great service. As it turned out, my large ammo pantry was empty for both loads.
Rival Arms, Trijicon And Xs Sights Transform A Glock 23 Into
I used a fast CCI Velocitor with a Winchester Super X hollowpoint. Each proved reliable as they fired 100 rounds of each load. There were no feed, room, fire, or discharge errors.
This is one fun shot! If I had a bunch of magazines, I would load them and just shoot the metal plates to my satisfaction. The rifle is an excellent plinker and an ideal training weapon for teaching young shooters to marksmanship. While Glock shooters may find it a good replacement, I'm sure those who need a good .22 caliber pistol will also find the M22 useful.
I enjoyed the gun shooting in combat shooting and target accuracy as well. The structures are well designed and offer good operational accuracy. They're not bull's-eye sights, they're Glock-style combat sights.
Shooting from a sturdy bench above a sandbag, I shot several groups of five rounds. At 15 yards, the gun averaged two-inch groups. A gun is well made and should be reliable with proper lubrication, regular cleaning, and attention to its load preferences.

Seven Glock Mods That Make Sense
A question that often comes up from people trying to learn more about firearms is "What is the difference between hammer guns and percussion guns?" They see the 11s, they see the Hellcats, and they want to know what the difference is between the two. And, inevitably, the next question is: which is better?
Understand the difference between a hammer gun (like the XD-E on the left) and a shotgun (right).
So, what is the difference and which is better? To begin, let's deal with the first part. A hammer gun has a trigger (as in the Range Officer Elite 1911) or both cocks and pulls (as in the XD-E in double-action mode) a hammer to strike the firing pin. That firing pin strikes the trigger of the chambered round, causing the gun to explode.
Basically, the firing pin inside the slide of the gun does not move until the hammer, under spring pressure, hits it and causes it, in turn, to hit the primer of the cartridge.
Hammer Fired Vs. Striker Fired Pistols: Everything You Need To Know
A pistol like the 1911 is single-action, meaning that the trigger simply ejects the cocked hammer. In order to use this type of gun effectively for self-defense, this means that it must be handled with a cocked hammer and a manual safety.
The Springfield XD-E has a double-action trigger system, which means the trigger can cock and release the exposed hammer.
On the other hand, a pistol like the XD-E has a double trigger, which means the pistol can be carried with the hammer down, and a long, heavy pull of the trigger loads and releases the hammer (the XD-E can also be carried with the hammer cocked and the safety by hand).
The advantage of a hammer gun is that it tends to shoot more accurately and can have a nice and clean trigger pull.

A percussion gun is a completely different animal. With this system, the firing pin inside the slide is under spring pressure. When the gun is fired, the retracted firing pin is released to strike the chambered cartridge primer.

The advantages of a striker system are that they have very few moving parts and often have many built-in safeguards that ensure they are very safe. They also tend to be a little lighter and are usually found in polymer frame pistols (with the unique XD-E being the exception).
So which is better? It is not an easy question to answer. Both systems have their pros and cons, as well as their supporters and detractors. If you can, try both brands yourself if you want to choose one or the other for your next shot. Or, just do what I did: buy one of each!
